Melania Trump spent the last week of October 2026 announcing a ceasefire. On October 23 the White House said she had personally brokered a localized truce between Russia and Ukraine in Oleshky, a flooded front-line city in the Kherson region, so aid could get in and elderly residents could get out (White House). Four days later she said on X that it had started two days early and been widened beyond the city (Reuters). It is a long way from the woman who posed in a red bikini beside Donald Trump’s jet for British GQ in 2000. This page puts both of those Melanias in one place: the news, the gossip, the lawsuits, and every red carpet and public look worth seeing, from the Versace Mansion in 2005 to the White House this month.

Melania Trump latest news and gossip (2026)
A ceasefire in Oleshky (October 2026)
The White House statement calls her the “Exclusive Intermediary” between Moscow and Kyiv on this one. She says she and a representative used the channel they had built through six earlier reunifications of 34 Ukrainian children, and that an “impartial American media organization” will follow the evacuation teams. Before the war about 24,000 people lived in Oleshky. Today an estimated 1,700 to 2,000 remain, most of them elderly (White House, Politico).
Women’s health order and Halloween
On October 19 she stood next to the President in the Rose Garden as he signed an executive order creating a new women’s health division at the NIH and a White House task force, a plan AP describes as championed by the First Lady (AP). That is the day of the gray houndstooth suit further down this page. On October 29 she and the President opened the South Lawn to trick-or-treaters, with a Be Best postcard station for kids (White House).
First First Lady to chair the UN Security Council (March 2026)
On March 2, 2026, with the US holding the Council’s rotating presidency, she took the gavel for a session on children, technology and education in conflict. UN News called it the first time a sitting First Lady had done that (UN News, Reuters).
Melania and the robot (March 2026)
Three weeks later she walked into the East Room next to Figure 03, a humanoid robot that greeted first spouses from 45 countries in 11 languages at her Fostering the Future Together summit. “The future of AI is personified,” she said (White House, Reuters).
The Melania documentary
Melania, directed by Brett Ratner, follows the 20 days before the 2025 inauguration. Amazon paid a reported $40 million for the film and a follow-up series and spent about $35 million marketing it. It opened on January 30, 2026, to about $7 million, the best start for a non-music documentary in years (NBC News, New York Times). Critics hated it. The Guardian and The Independent each gave it one star, and Rotten Tomatoes critics sat around 8%. Audiences gave it an A CinemaScore and a 99% audience score (Deadline, Variety). Promo week included a trip to the New York Stock Exchange on January 28 in a belted black coat dress.
The Epstein statement and her lawsuits
On April 9, 2026, she gave rare remarks at the White House denying any relationship with Jeffrey Epstein or Ghislaine Maxwell. She said she was never on his plane or his island, called an old email exchange with Maxwell casual, and asked Congress to hold a public hearing for Epstein’s survivors (AP, Washington Post).
The statement followed a long legal fight. In 2025 her lawyers threatened Hunter Biden with a $1 billion suit over his claim that Epstein introduced her to Donald Trump (BBC). Author Michael Wolff sued her first, trying to block a similar claim against him. A federal judge dismissed Wolff’s case in May 2026, and he has appealed (AP).
Melania Trump’s modeling career: Milan to New York
She was born Melanija Knavs in Novo Mesto and grew up in Sevnica, then a small industrial town in Yugoslavia. She modeled in Milan and Paris under the name Melania Knauss and moved to New York in 1996 on a work visa. A person who knew her then told the Washington Post she was “never a supermodel, she was a working model”. Her biggest jobs before Trump were runway work in Europe, a Camel billboard in Times Square and the 2000 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue (Washington Post via Seattle Times). Those credits later backed her application for the “Einstein visa” for people of extraordinary ability. In 2001 she and Donald made a cameo in Zoolander.
Melania Trump bikini photos: GQ 2000 and Sports Illustrated
Her two most famous swimwear moments both come from early 2000. For the January 2000 issue of British GQ she was shot on Donald Trump’s private jet under the cover line “Sex at 30,000ft. Melania Knauss earns her air miles”. The cover is even listed in her old official White House biography (Seattle Times). The red bikini shot by the plane’s door, with sunglasses and a prop pistol, is the swimwear photo everyone remembers.

A month later she was in the Sports Illustrated 2000 Swimsuit Issue in a string bikini on a beach, hugging a six-foot inflatable whale. She was one of more than 20 models at the issue’s launch at the Hammerstein Ballroom on February 22, 2000 (UPI).
Donald, the wedding and Barron
She met Donald Trump in 1998 at a Fashion Week party at the Kit Kat Club in New York, and she was 28. Within months she was in Page Six on his arm (Seattle Times). They got engaged in 2004 and married on January 22, 2005, at the Church of Bethesda-by-the-Sea in Palm Beach, with the reception at Mar-a-Lago. Her John Galliano for Dior gown made the cover of Vogue in February 2005. She became a US citizen in 2006, and their son Barron was born on March 20, 2006 (Wikipedia).
Pink Versace night in Miami Beach (March 2005)
About six weeks after the wedding, on March 4, 2005, the newlyweds were photographed leaving the Versace Mansion in Miami Beach. She wore a pink satin halter gown with a keyhole neckline, an open back and a gold buckle at the waist, with a gold clutch and cuff. It is still the best set of night-out photos of her.

The First Lady years
Her first run in the East Wing (2017-2021) started with a powder-blue Ralph Lauren look at the 2017 inauguration and a ball gown she co-designed with Hervé Pierre. It brought the Be Best campaign for children’s well-being (May 2018) and the “I really don’t care, do u?” Zara jacket she wore on a trip to a migrant children’s facility in June 2018, which became one of the most talked-about outfits of the term. The road there had its own scandal: her 2016 Republican convention speech borrowed passages from Michelle Obama’s 2008 speech (Wikipedia).
Round two began on January 20, 2025, in a navy Adam Lippes coat and wide-brimmed Eric Javits hat. Since then she has launched a $MELANIA meme coin (January 2025), backed the Take It Down Act against nonconsensual intimate images, including AI deepfakes (signed in May 2025), published her memoir Melania (October 2024), and in 2026 added the UN gavel, the robot summit and the Oleshky ceasefire (White House, Wikipedia).
