Sydney Sweeney Bond Girl? 1971 Bond Star Trina Parks Praises Her ‘Ownership of Her Sexuality’

I’ve been behind the camera since 2001 and shot more than 2,000 scenes, so I’ve sat through a lot of casting calls. The best ones end the same way: somebody in the room says what everybody is already thinking. This weekend a real Bond girl said it about Sydney Sweeney.

A woman who actually played a Bond girl says Sydney Sweeney should be the next one, and she picked a very specific reason. Trina Parks, who played Thumper in “Diamonds Are Forever” (1971), told The Telegraph on Oct. 31 that Sydney “has got ownership of her sexual identity” and would make a “wonderful” Bond girl. The Daily Mail, LBC and Marca picked it up on Nov. 1, just as Amazon MGM’s search for the next 007 reaches its final round.

Below: exactly what Parks said, who else has backed Sydney for the franchise, what Sydney herself has said about it, what the viral “12% chance” really means, and what’s actually confirmed about the new Bond film. Nobody has been cast as Bond’s love interest yet.

What happened: Trina Parks’ exact words

Parks, the first African American actress cast as a Bond girl according to LBC and the Daily Mail, was asked who she’d like to see opposite the next 007. Her answer, as quoted by The Telegraph:

“She has done quite a range of acting things and basically has got ownership of her sexual identity. Not only is she a talented actress, but has this Hollywood classic kind of style and poise, which really works for her projects and brand.”

She also said audiences “want to see a woman opposite Bond who is independent and has ownership of her sexuality,” adding: “Sydney has those qualities.” That’s an opinion from a franchise alumna, not inside casting information. Parks doesn’t say she’s talked to Amazon MGM, and Sydney’s team hasn’t commented.

See it: the posts that started it

The Telegraph broke Trina Parks’ comments on Oct. 31, the Daily Mail and LBC ran with them on Nov. 1, and a few hours later Kalshi’s film account posted the “12%” number that sent the story around X. Embedded from the accounts that published them.

NICO’S TAKE
Nico Grey

Sydney, a Bond girl from 1971 just gave you the best casting note I’ve heard all year. Not “pretty,” not “hot.” Ownership. In my business, that’s the whole job. The camera can tell in two seconds whether a woman owns the scene or the scene owns her.

Let’s be straight: this is a fan endorsement, not a casting call. Nobody at Amazon has said your name, and you told Variety you’d rather play Bond himself. Fair. But the Housemaid, the Euphoria pink room, that boat scene in Anyone but You: that’s an audition reel already.

Who else is backing Sydney for Bond

Parks isn’t the first. Back in June, Jane Seymour, who played Solitaire in “Live and Let Die” (1973), was asked at the Race to Erase MS gala whether Sydney could be a Bond girl. “Oh, I am sure she would,” Seymour said, calling her “gorgeous” and “talented,” according to a report carried by Yahoo Entertainment. “It is a movie. It is not a mission,” she added. “It’s supposed to be fun.”

And then there’s Sydney herself. Asked about the Bond-girl rumors by Variety in October 2025, she said: “I don’t know all the Bond rumors, but I’ve always been a huge fan of the franchise.” Would she do it? “Depends on the script. I think I’d have more fun as James Bond.” Variety noted at the time that Jeff Bezos, whose company now owns the franchise, was reported to want her for the role. That’s still a report, not a confirmation.

The ‘12% chance’: what the odds actually say

On Nov. 1, Kalshi’s film account posted that Sydney “has a 12% chance to be cast as the next Bond girl.” The post passed 190,000 views, and fans quote-posted it all evening. Here’s the context the post didn’t give you: it’s a prediction market where people bet small amounts, not a studio leak.

When we checked the market on Monday, Nov. 2, the last trades put Margaret Qualley top at about 63%, then Anya Taylor-Joy (26%), Florence Pugh (13%) and Sydney, Daisy Edgar-Jones and Lily James at about 12% each, with Ana de Armas, Mikey Madison and Zendaya further back. The spreads between buy and sell prices were wide, which means thin trading: a single bet can move a number a lot. Qualley’s name being on top is a betting signal. It isn’t casting news, and she’s had her own very public month (her divorce filing with Jack Antonoff).

What’s actually confirmed about the new Bond film

  • Who’s making it: Amazon MGM Studios, with producers Amy Pascal and David Heyman, director Denis Villeneuve, writer Steven Knight and casting director Nina Gold, per Deadline.
  • The 007 shortlist: Deadline reported at least four screen-test offers, with Jack Lowden, Callum Turner and Josh O’Connor expected and a fourth name unconfirmed. Digital Spy, citing The Hollywood Reporter, says Harris Dickinson and Nicholas Hoult are not in the running and Jack O’Connell may be the fourth.
  • Where: the tests ran at Bray Studios in Berkshire, the Rocky Horror Picture Show’s old home, which Amazon MGM bought in 2024. The Daily Mail says Turner, who married Dua Lipa this year, went first.
  • When: Pascal said in August that “the end of the year is a good bet” for an announcement.
  • The Bond girl: no casting has been reported. The leading man comes first.

How we got here

  • June 2025: Sydney attends Jeff Bezos’ wedding in Venice.
  • October 2025: Sydney tells Variety she’d “have more fun as James Bond.”
  • June 2026: Jane Seymour says “why not?” to Sydney as a Bond girl.
  • Oct. 22, 2026: Deadline reports the final 007 screen tests are set.
  • Oct. 23 to 25: screen tests at Bray Studios, per the Daily Mail.
  • Oct. 31: Trina Parks backs Sydney in The Telegraph.
  • Nov. 1: the Daily Mail, LBC and Marca follow; Kalshi posts its “12%.”

Confirmed vs. talk

Confirmed: Parks’ and Seymour’s comments, Sydney’s Variety quotes, the creative team, the Bray screen tests and Pascal’s year-end timeline.

Talk: Sydney as a Bond girl, any Bond girl shortlist, the identity of the fourth 007 contender, and Bezos wanting her (reported, never confirmed). Sydney, her reps and Amazon MGM haven’t commented on Parks’ remarks. Sydney is currently in New York filming “The Housemaid’s Secret,” and she’s been out with Scooter Braun.

What to watch next

The 007 announcement is the trigger. Once Amazon MGM names its Bond (Pascal says by year’s end), attention moves straight to the women opposite him, and that’s when names like Sydney’s either get a real call or fade. Watch for Sydney being asked about Parks’ comments on her next press stop, and for Nina Gold’s casting office moving on to the female leads. We’ll update this page if anything is confirmed.

— Nico. Two Bond girls have now said yes to Sydney. The only vote that counts sits at Amazon. Until they call, her hub is the screen test.
