October 2026: the good girl of German TV goes wild
Friends Sex and Games started streaming worldwide on October 16, 2026, and the reviews kept saying the same thing: this is not the Paula Kalenberg your mother watches on Sunday nights. stern called it probably the most grown-up treatment of sex German television has seen in a long time and singled out the sauna scenes between Anna and Samu as intimate as any simulated sex, even though the two of them only sit side by side.
“There is no dream partner”
Kalenberg keeps her private life private, and she is good at it. The closest she has come to talking about love was in December 2024, promoting the ZDF Christmas film Zitronenherzen, when she told OK! Magazin she had realised there is no such thing as the perfect partner, that letting go of that romantic picture felt incredibly freeing, and that she was happier than ever. In the same interview she mentioned baking Christmas biscuits as a mum. That is all she has said, and we are not going to guess at the rest.
Half Croatian, Berlin based, Allgäu at heart
She was born in Dinslaken, grew up in Bielefeld with a single mother, and told the Abendzeitung that her father is from Croatia and lives there again, which makes her, in her words, half Croatian. She has lived in Berlin longer than anywhere else, but the place she calls her safe spot is the Allgäu, where her grandmother’s family comes from and where she spends Christmas with the whole family.
The early riser who hates shopping malls
Her favourite ritual is a cup of coffee in the dark before anyone else in the house is awake, and she admits she can be a real grump if you interrupt it. Flashing shopping malls at Christmas are, in her words, hell on earth. Biscuits, on the other hand, she could bathe in.

Paula Kalenberg was born on November 9, 1986, in Dinslaken, North Rhine-Westphalia, and started acting young, landing her first TV film in 2001 and then training formally as an actress. Her breakthrough came with Die Wolke (2006), which won her the Bunte New Faces Award, followed by Krabat (2008), the Hörzu Lilli Palmer & Curd Jürgens camera for best newcomer and the 2011 Askania Shooting Star Award. Since then she has carried dozens of TV films and series, from Der Fall Barschel and Der weiße Äthiopier to Netflix’s Du Sie Er & Wir (2021), before becoming Anna in Friends Sex and Games.
