I’ve been behind the camera since 2001 and shot more than 2,000 scenes, and there is one fantasy every man on every crew still asks for: the private room, the pink wig, the girl who takes your money and gives you nothing but a smile. Kali Uchis knows it. For Halloween 2026 she became Alice from Closer, Natalie Portman’s stripper, and she wore it better than anyone has since 2004.

The photos landed on Oct. 26 (U.S. time) and were all over X within hours: Pop Crave‘s post alone passed 19,000 likes. Vogue and W Magazine both put her in their best celebrity costumes of 2026 and credit the shoot to photographer Amaury Nessaibia (Vogue, W Magazine). W says the singer “referenced Natalie Portman’s iconic pink-haired protagonist in the 2004 film.”
What you see in the shots: a glossy pink bob with a heavy fringe, a lilac bra trimmed with white fringe that hangs down over her stomach like a curtain, a black garter on one thigh, and a backdrop of rainbow tinsel with glitter on the floor. She crouches low in one frame and turns over her shoulder in another, pouting at the camera. It is the club-room scene, frame for frame.

Kali Uchis’ Alice costume, piece by piece
- The wig: a bright pink bob with blunt bangs, the exact cut from the film. The original was “a very, very cheap wig” bought off the shelf, Closer hair and makeup artist Christine Blundell told Marie Claire.
- The bra: lilac cups with a curtain of white fringe hanging from the underwire to the waist, the dancer’s outfit Alice wears at work.
- The garter: a black band high on one thigh. That’s the only thing she wears on her legs.
- The makeup: pink lids and a dewy, highlighted face. Blundell says Portman’s working look was “really bold pink eyeshadow” and “loads and loads of highlighters” (Marie Claire).
- The set: rainbow tinsel curtains and a glitter floor, a strip-club back room built for one photo shoot.
Nico’s take: she cast herself in the role
Everyone remembers the wig. What they forget is the scene. Alice in that private room is the most powerful person in the movie: Clive Owen keeps paying, keeps begging for the truth, and she gives him nothing. That is the fantasy. Not the skin, the control.
Kali gets it. She didn’t buy a party-store costume and pose in the kitchen. She hired a photographer, built a tinsel room and shot it like a casting tape. Fringe bra, garter, a pout over the shoulder. That is a lap dance you can look at but can’t touch, which is the whole point of Alice.
My take: of all the women who went as other women this year, Kali picked the dirtiest movie and played it the most like an actress. Hollywood, if you are remaking anything from 2004, you have her number.

One more thing from my side of the camera. Kali has never been shy about the sexy side of her image, from her sultry music videos to the slow-burn hit “Telepatía.” But she has never done a film role. A costume shoot this cinematic reads like a screen test to me. My bet, not news: someone offers her one.
Who is Alice in Closer?
Closer is Mike Nichols’ 2004 film of Patrick Marber’s play, about two couples who cheat, lie and swap: Julia Roberts, Jude Law, Clive Owen and Natalie Portman. Portman plays Alice, a young American in London who works as a stripper. In the film’s most famous scene, Clive Owen’s Larry finds her at the club and pays for a private room, and she teases him with every answer. The role won Portman a Golden Globe for best supporting actress and an Oscar nomination. Costume designer Ann Roth wanted Alice in a colorful wig for the club, and Christine Blundell found and fitted the pink one (Marie Claire). Twenty-two years later, it is still one of the most copied Halloween looks there is.

Kali wasn’t alone in raiding the movie vault. Zendaya went as Halle Berry at the 2000 X-Men premiere in the real Lanvin string top. Charli XCX went as Lee Holloway from Secretary, arm bar and all.
