I’ve been behind the camera since 2001 and shot more than 2,000 scenes, and I’ll tell you the dirty secret of my business: you can’t direct chemistry. You can light it, frame it, pay for it. But when it isn’t there, every lens on earth can tell.
Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco’s yacht kiss is everywhere again. A post on X on Oct. 30 showing the couple locked in a kiss on a luxury yacht passed 1.5 million views in a day (@Costacozy on X). Here’s the thing nobody in the replies mentioned: those photos aren’t new. They’re from the last weekend of July, off the French Riviera.
TMZ broke the set on July 28: the newlyweds “smooching, hugging, swimming and tooling around on a jet ski” (TMZ). Page Six placed the yacht off Cannes (Page Six), and the Daily Mail reported Selena in a burgundy bikini and Benny in blue trunks (Daily Mail). Three months later, the internet fell in love with it all over again.
Below: the full yacht set, their Portofino days, her red Prada night in October and my take on why this couple keeps winning the internet. Jump to Nico’s Take →
What happened on the yacht
According to TMZ, they shared several kisses on deck, held hands taking in the view, then jumped off the yacht together into the water and climbed back on grinning, with Selena “seemingly catching a bit more airtime than Benny” (TMZ). The Daily Mail described them psyching themselves up hand in hand before the jump and sealing it with a post-dip kiss, and said the trip came after months of Selena filming Only Murders in the Building in London (Daily Mail).
Benny, who isn’t a fan of flying, had already joked about how he crossed the ocean to see her. He posted a clip from a ship captioned “POV: ur traveling across the atlantic in the titanic to see ur wife bc ur scared of flying,” with the line “The things we do for love,” the Daily Mail reported (Daily Mail).

Let me say what the comment section won’t. Every time these two go viral, half the replies are the same joke: how did he get her? I’ve cast and shot more couples than I can count, and my take is that the question is backwards.
Look at the photos like a director. She’s the one leaning in. Her hand is on his chest, her weight is on him, and he’s standing there wrapped in a towel like a man who just won the lottery and knows it. Nobody poses that. When I stage a kiss, I spend twenty minutes faking exactly what she does without thinking.
Hollywood spent a decade selling Selena as one half of a tragic love story. Benny isn’t a heartthrob, he’s a guy who makes her laugh and crossed the Atlantic on a boat because he hates planes. In my business, the leading man is never the prettiest guy on set. It’s the one she relaxes around. The camera picks him every time.
And here’s the part I respect as a media guy: a three-month-old photo did 1.5 million views in a day. Nobody pays for that kind of reach. Happy, in love and filmed from a distance still sells better than any red carpet.
My bet? They’ll be the most-photographed couple of the winter, and the jokes will get quieter every time. For more of tonight’s stars, Alexandra Daddario’s viral moment is here →

Watch: the two of them, on purpose
If the yacht is them off duty, this is them on the clock. Their duet from the album they made together:
Their duet, played as a love letter. In the Sunset Blvd video Selena works a retro, VHS-grain fantasy: big ’80s curls, a black slip on a pink sofa, an oversized white shirt, a blue-lit nightclub. Benny pops in wearing a denim jacket and, in the best gag, as a tiny man kneeling at a giant red-soled stiletto. Flirty, fully clothed, very them.

Before France: Portofino

Most recent: red Prada, and Benny with the paddle
On Oct. 14 she hosted her Rare Impact Fund Benefit in a custom red Prada gown, later changing into a second Prada look (People). Vogue reported that after the auction she and Benny swayed together on the dance floor as Leon Bridges played (Vogue).
What’s confirmed
Confirmed: the yacht photos were published by TMZ on July 28, 2026 and also reported by Page Six, the Daily Mail and Gshow. The location is the French Riviera; Page Six says off Cannes.
