Margaret Qualley and Jack Antonoff File for Divorce, and He’s Still Singing Her Love Songs on Tour

I’ve been behind the camera since 2001 and shot more than 2,000 scenes, so I know how a love story usually ends on set: someone yells “cut,” everybody hugs, and the crew goes home. Margaret Qualley and Jack Antonoff just yelled “cut” on three years of marriage. On paper, in a Brooklyn courthouse, together.

It’s official. Margaret Qualley and Jack Antonoff filed for divorce on Friday, Oct. 30, nearly four months after the news broke that they had split. The case, Sarah Margaret Qualley v. Jack Michael Antonoff, was filed in Kings County Supreme Court in Brooklyn as an “uncontested joint divorce,” Rolling Stone reports, citing the court record. People broke the news, and a source close to the couple told the magazine: “This is a mutual decision.”

And here’s the part nobody can stop talking about: Jack is still on tour, still singing the love songs he wrote about her, and a week ago he told The Guardian he won’t drop them. Below: what the filing actually says, what’s only a source, his words and hers, and everything Margaret has coming next. Her Scandal Planet hub has every scene that made her a star, from “The Substance” to “Love of Your Life.”

What happened: one filing, two names, no fight

New York requires a plaintiff and a defendant on every divorce, so Margaret’s name comes first and Jack’s second. The People source stressed that this means nothing: “Jack and Margaret are filing for divorce jointly,” and it’s “an uncontested, mutually agreed divorce.” The Associated Press and USA Today confirmed the filing in court records.

According to Rolling Stone, the court has processed a certificate of dissolution of marriage, but a settlement agreement is still pending and a judge has to sign off on everything. So they’re not divorced yet. They’ve started the paperwork, and neither of them is fighting it. Reps for both didn’t answer requests for comment from Rolling Stone or the Los Angeles Times.

People had it first on Friday afternoon, New York time. Within hours Pop Crave’s post passed 3.5 million views on X, and Page Six, the New York Post and Complex all ran it. Here are the posts:

NICO’S TAKE
Nico Grey

I’ve watched a lot of couples wrap a scene. The classy ones shake hands and leave. Margaret and Jack just did it with a joint filing and a source swearing they’ll be “lifelong friends.” No lawyers throwing chairs. Respect.

Jack, though. Brother. You’re on stage every night singing “Dirty Wedding Dress” about the woman whose name is on the other side of the case file. That’s either the bravest thing in rock or the most expensive therapy in America. My bet: both.

Margaret took the other route. Within weeks of the split news she was shooting a horror remake in Jersey City, and her new film has her in a candlelit bath. She’s not crying. She’s working.

The filing vs. the source: what’s actually confirmed

  • Confirmed by court records (via Rolling Stone, AP, USA Today): filed Friday, Oct. 30, in Kings County Supreme Court; listed as an uncontested joint divorce; certificate of dissolution processed; settlement agreement still pending; a judge still has to review it.
  • Only from an unnamed source (to People): it’s “a mutual decision,” and “they share a deep affinity and love for one another, and though their romantic partnership is ending, they will absolutely be lifelong friends.”
  • On the record from her side (her rep, July 10, via People): “The narratives running in the press about Margaret and Jack are categorically untrue. There are no trust issues. There was no infidelity.” The rep added that “the sources who are talking to the press and commenting on their relationship are not people who know them,” per USA Today.
  • Not known: why they split, what the settlement says, and whether either one is seeing someone new. Neither has said a word about any of it.

So if you see a “cheating” headline this weekend, remember her rep shot that down in July, on the record, and nobody has put a name to anything since.

He’s still singing her songs, and he says he won’t stop

Bleachers’ latest album, “Everyone for Ten Minutes,” came out weeks before the split news, and it’s full of songs about Margaret. The video for “You and Forever” even stars the two of them together, The Guardian notes. Jack is now on tour performing them, and he told the paper on Oct. 25 he thought hard about cutting them:

“I sat long and hard with it and thought: ‘If I change the setlist …’ and in my gut there was a unanimous jury that said, ‘No, this is the deal.’ The deal I’ve made with my audience is that I’m going to tell you honestly how I feel.”

He also said: “I would rather live through something publicly than even escape it privately.” At the Red Rocks show after the interview, the Guardian’s writer heard both “Dirty Wedding Dress” and “You and Forever” in the set.

He hasn’t always been that solemn about it. At a Sept. 15 show in West Hollywood, a fan yelled for the 2017 song “Let’s Get Married.” Jack’s answer, caught on video by USA Today: “Absolutely not. Read the news, brother.” Then, softer: “I love that song.”

And Margaret’s last public words about him are still sweet. In 2024 she told Rolling Stone the Bleachers video “Tiny Moves,” which she choreographed, co-directed and starred in, was a “love letter” to Jack: “He’s my favorite person to do anything with,” Rolling Stone recalls. That video is on her hub, too.

— Nico. One filing, zero drama, and a setlist that won’t quit. If either of them finally talks, you’ll read it here. Until then, Margaret’s hub has the scenes that never needed a breakup song.
