I’m opening with Zooey Deschanel at her most playful. In New Girl (2012) her Jess Day sits on the bed in a red bra grinning at Justin Long’s shirtless Paul, then shows up in the doorway in a strappy black harness over a striped bra, trying very hard to be sexy.
Zooey Deschanel in New Girl: Jess Day’s lingerie scenes with Justin Long. Ranked scenes, 15 clips, 24 photos and an FAQ below.
Note: Released film and TV footage only, adult roles only. Zooey Deschanel has never done a fully nude scene. Her most revealing moments are a topless scene with her hands covering her chest in The Good Life (2007), an open-shirt bed scene and a hot tub scene in All the Real Girls (2003) and a sex scene in Winter Passing (2005). In New Girl it is lingerie, swimsuits and one naked-behind-a-pillow gag.

Zooey Deschanel is an American actress and singer, born on 17 January 1980 in Los Angeles. She is best known as Jess Day, the quirky schoolteacher in Fox’s New Girl (2011–2018), a role that earned her Golden Globe and Emmy nominations, and as Summer in (500) Days of Summer (2009). Her most intimate screen work is in indie films of the 2000s: All the Real Girls (2003), Winter Passing (2005) and The Good Life (2007).
Zooey Deschanel Sexy Scenes in New Girl (2011–2018)
Series: New Girl (Fox, 2011–2018), seven seasons | Role: Jess Day, a teacher who moves into a loft with three guys | What you see: lingerie, bras, a swimsuit and a naked scene hidden behind a pillow
New Girl is a sitcom, so there is no nudity, but Jess spends a surprising amount of screen time in her underwear. The best of it comes in season 1, when she dates Paul Genzlinger (Justin Long), and later in her romance with roommate Nick Miller (Jake Johnson).
Red bra and strappy lingerie with Justin Long (3:31)
Here’s the full New Girl lingerie run from season 1 (2012). Zooey Deschanel’s Jess lies next to Paul (Justin Long) in a red bra, then struts in wearing a strappy cage harness, flips her hair, throws her arms up and pulls him onto the bed. Goofy, flirty and still one of her hottest looks.
Pilot: the naked surprise (0:52)
The New Girl pilot (2011) starts with a bang. Zooey Deschanel’s Jess plans a naked surprise for her boyfriend, dancing through the apartment with nothing but a pillow held in front of her body, only to find him there with another woman. Her face when it all goes wrong is priceless.
Bra and red tutu with Nick (1:32)
Season 2’s “Cooler” (2013) traps Jess and Nick in the bedroom during a drinking game. Zooey Deschanel sits against the wall in a lacy purple bra and a fluffy red tutu next to Jake Johnson in a trench coat, the tension building with every line. You can feel the first kiss coming.
Pink bra in bed with Nick (1:36)
Lazy mornings with Jess and Nick. In New Girl Zooey Deschanel sits up in bed in a pink lace bra beside a shirtless Jake Johnson, pulls the sheet around herself, leans over him and laughs while they argue about nothing. Easily one of the warmest and sexiest couple scenes of the series.
Swimsuit in the pool with Nick (1:05)
Water time with Jess Day. In this New Girl scene Zooey Deschanel wades through an indoor pool in a black swimsuit, wet hair slicked back, chasing a shirtless Nick (Jake Johnson) across the water and bickering the whole way. Simple, wet and a nice look at her shoulders and curves.
Zooey Deschanel in All the Real Girls (2003)
Film: All the Real Girls (2003), directed by David Gordon Green | Role: Noel, 18, back home in North Carolina after boarding school | What you see: bed scenes, a hot tub scene, an open shirt
Her breakout indie role, and an Independent Spirit Award nomination. Noel falls for her brother’s best friend Paul (Paul Schneider), a small-town womanizer who wants to take it slow with her. A long bed scene, the night hot tub and a quiet motel moment where her shirt hangs open are the film’s most intimate moments.
Bed scene with Paul (2:18)
Zooey Deschanel’s breakout film All the Real Girls (2003) gets intimate here. As Noel she lies tangled up with Paul (Paul Schneider) on a bed piled with stuffed toys, his shirt off, kissing slowly and stroking his back while the two talk in whispers. Tender rather than wild, and that makes it hotter.
Night hot tub scene (2:19)
Night falls in All the Real Girls (2003) and Paul cannonballs into a hot tub in his underwear. Zooey Deschanel’s Noel slips in beside him in a strappy top, wet hair pinned up, and the two drift close in the steam, foreheads touching and kissing under the string lights.
Open shirt on the bed (0:22)
A quieter All the Real Girls (2003) moment. Zooey Deschanel’s Noel lies back on a bed with her shirt hanging open and her bare stomach showing while Paul (Paul Schneider) sits beside her, then he slowly runs his hand across the scars on her side. Short, close and very personal.
Zooey Deschanel Sex Scene in Winter Passing (2005)
Film: Winter Passing (2005), with Ed Harris and Will Ferrell | Role: Reese Holden, a struggling New York actress | What you see: a sex scene, tank top and panties
Reese is a stage actress drifting through New York before she goes home to Michigan to see her reclusive novelist father (Ed Harris). The film opens on her messy city life, including a sex scene in her apartment and a morning by the window in a tank top and panties.
Sex scene (0:26)
Winter Passing (2005) is where Zooey Deschanel gets a real sex scene. Her Reese Holden lies on her back in a messy New York bed while a shirtless man moves on top of her, her face turned to the pillow, eyes half closed, hand by her cheek. Moody, low-lit and raw.
Tank top and panties by the window (2:26)
The morning after in Winter Passing (2005). Zooey Deschanel’s Reese perches on a windowsill in a white tank top and black panties, smoking as the rain runs down the glass, then wanders through her cluttered apartment past the man asleep in her bed. Those bare legs steal the scene.
Zooey Deschanel Shower Scene in Elf (2003)
Film: Elf (2003), with Will Ferrell | Role: Jovie, a department store elf | What you see: a shower scene with bare shoulders
The most famous scene on this page: Jovie sings “Baby, It’s Cold Outside” in the store’s staff shower while Buddy (Will Ferrell) sits by the sinks and joins in. It is a family film, so the shower curtain does a lot of work.
Singing in the shower (0:59)
Of course Elf (2003) is here. Zooey Deschanel’s Jovie washes her hair in the store’s staff shower, wet bare shoulders over the curtain, singing “Baby, It’s Cold Outside” until she realizes Buddy (Will Ferrell) is sitting by the sinks singing along. Her shocked face is the best bit.
The Good Life, The Driftless Area, Physical and Your Highness
Films and series: The Good Life (2007), The Driftless Area (2015), Physical (Apple TV+, season 3, 2023), Your Highness (2011) | What you see: a covered topless scene, a bikini, a swimsuit, a corset
In The Good Life she plays Frances, a mysterious young woman in Nebraska, and has her only topless scene. The Driftless Area pairs her with Anton Yelchin (and Aubrey Plaza). In season 3 of Physical she plays Kelly Kilmartin, a rival TV fitness star. In Your Highness, with Natalie Portman, Princess Belladonna is held captive by the sorcerer Leezar (Justin Theroux).
The Good Life: topless on the bed (0:18)
The Good Life (2007) gives us Zooey Deschanel’s only topless scene. Her Frances lies back on a dark bed, eyes closed, with both hands pressed over her bare chest, while Jason (Mark Webber) looks on from across a candlelit room. Brief, dreamy and surprisingly bold for her.
The Driftless Area: bikini on a picnic blanket (1:25)
Sunshine in The Driftless Area (2015). Zooey Deschanel’s Stella stretches out on a picnic blanket in a bright patterned bikini next to Anton Yelchin’s Pierre, filmed from above, then rolls onto her side with her arms over her head, red lipstick on and eyes closed.
Physical: red swimsuit at the expo (0:21)
Zooey Deschanel goes full 80s in season 3 of Physical (2023). As blonde TV fitness star Kelly Kilmartin she poses in a high-cut red swimsuit at a busy fitness expo booth, hand on her hip and big curls everywhere, then turns to the camera in a yellow jacket. Pure aerobics fantasy.
Your Highness: red corset under a spell (0:07)
In Your Highness (2011) Zooey Deschanel plays Princess Belladonna, held captive by the sorcerer Leezar. In this short clip she lies on a bed of furs in a red corset, unconscious, while glowing magic smoke pours out of her mouth before she slowly comes to. A captivity scene, not a romantic one.
Zooey Deschanel in (500) Days of Summer and Other Roles
(500) Days of Summer (2009): as Summer Finn opposite Joseph Gordon-Levitt she has kissing and bedroom scenes but no nudity. Yes Man (2008), The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy (2005) and The Happening (2008) have no nude scenes either. Our Idiot Brother (2011), Gigantic (2008) and Eulogy (2004) have short, dark or distant moments that are not shown here.
